Redefining fleet management for a sustainable future.
Färjerederiet operates a fleet of ferries, providing transportation services across waterways throughout the whole of Sweden. Their primary focus is on facilitating passenger and vehicle transport efficiently and reliably, connecting islands, coastal communities, and mainland destinations. Färjerederiet plays a vital role in regional connectivity, supporting tourism, commerce, and everyday commuting needs. Färjerederiet achieves its mission by maintaining a diverse fleet of ferries tailored to different routes and passenger needs. These ferries range from small, nimble vessels for shorter crossings to larger, more robust ships capable of accommodating significant passenger volumes and vehicle traffic for longer routes.
Vision 45 is Färjerederiets plan to develop its operations to contribute to achieving the climate policy goals set by the Swedish government. It is a plan to secure the availability of efficient and environmentally friendly ferries up to the year 2045.
"It is a plan that clearly takes a stance: we will become climate neutral by 2045 at the latest."
By participating in Hack-A-fleet you will contribute to this endeavour and similar endeavours by other fleet operators.
RISE Research Institutes of Sweden serves as the country's research institute and innovation partner. Through international collaboration with businesses, academia, and the public sector, they contribute to a competitive economy and a sustainable society
Cetasol is a Gothenburg-based company supporting emission reduction in the maritime sector. Decision support for crew, captains, and business owners is made possible with the AI solution iHelm, developed by Cetasol. iHelm also provides energy optimization, energy measurement, and support in electrification. With automatic dynamic modeling of vessels and operations, Cetasol has recorded savings of 10-17% in fuel usage.
Färjerederiet operates a fleet of 68 vibrant yellow road ferries that service 40 different routes throughout Sweden. Annually, these ferries accommodate a million sailings and facilitate the transportation of 12 million vehicles. They play a crucial role in supporting the lifestyle of those residing in coastal regions, providing innovative solutions to traffic challenges, and establishing convenient shortcuts within urban areas.
The theme of Hack-A-Fleet is "Innovation for Sustainability in Fleet Management". We challenge participants to blend cutting-edge technology with creative problem-solving to build solutions that ensure the future of fleet management is sustainable, efficient, and environmentally friendly.
Efficiently operating a fleet of ferries involves juggling a range of strategic challenges, such as:
All of these areas are potential areas for improvements within the Vision 45 plan but taking the correct actions requires information, knowledge and insights to be available.
Your challenge is to develop new tools or create new information/knowledge/insights that can help Färjerederiet to achieve its Vision 45 using a real-world dataset from a subset of Färjerederiets fleet.
Hack-A-Fleet is a 2-week online hackathon tacking place between the 18th and 30th of November 2024.
The submitted solutions will be evaluated based on innovation, impact on sustainability, practical feasibility, user experience, and scalability. The judges will particularly look for solutions that demonstrate a clear understanding of the fleet management challenges and present a viable, impactful solution.
Participants retain full ownership of their ideas and prototypes. Hack-A-Fleet encourages open innovation and collaboration, with the aim of fostering real-world solutions that can be adopted and scaled for maximum impact.
Participation in Hack-A-Fleet is free, encouraging a diverse group of participants.
Hack-A-Fleet invites software developers, data scientists, sustainability advocates, entrepreneurs, and students passionate about technology and environmental sustainability. Whether you're an industry veteran or a budding innovator, if you're driven to make a difference in fleet management, this event is for you.
Cetasol is the sponsor of the prize of the Hack-A-Fleet. They want to highlight and support actions that aim for a more sustainable maritime industry.
Cetasol participates in the event with the intention of finding a person for an internship position at Cetasol. The internship will give the person an opportunity to support the growth of their product, moving sustainability forward. Cetasol reserves the right not to take on an internship.
Register by clicking the link below. You may participate alone or in a team of maximum 4 persons. All team members must register and state their team name.
